The tradition of giving gifts has really taken a dive in recent years. There used to be a much more refined understanding of a gift and its role in social relationships. We tend to buy cheap gifts that appear expensive, but we ultimately know that we are not fooling anyone. When we give such gifts there is little surprise when the gifts we get back are not exactly stellar either. I'm talking about things such as gift baskets. You know what I'm talking about-a cheap little wicker basket filled with basically inedible stuff or bad soap. When you see this kind of gift coming you probably just groan. You know that you will have to act like you are happy to get a joke gift basket that probably cost someone ten dollars.
How can you tell if you are sending someone a quality gift basket? You can at least tell if you are sending them a poor one. Does most of the stuff in the basket just seem like filler? Is there anything in the basket that really seems strange or repugnant? Does all of the stuff com from the same company? If so, then you know that you are not sending a quality gift basket. If the stuff simply seems to be pretending to be quality you know that it is not.
Who would want some cheap soap or dumb popcorn? These are the sorts of things that people always give each other when they don't know any better. A website I saw the other day had some better gift basket ideas. One thing that I have noticed when it comes to good ingredients in a great gift basket is the tastier the better. One that I really liked was a box that looked like an old fashioned box. I would have loved the box without the candies inside!
However, what I found inside was amazing. They had pistochios, Belgium chocolates, a great selection of jelly bellies, various nuts, lindor truffles, peanut butter cookies, and some great peanut butter truffles. Everyone would love to get a gift like that. If a business associate were to give me such a gift I would definitely remember it for years to come. Some other things I would expect to find in a good gift basket are various gourmet chocolates. Gourmet coffees or teas, and other gourmet drink mixes. Any combination of these things would realy impress me.
A high quality container that will last well beyond the goodies inside it is always a mark of a high quality gift basket. Getting a small wooden box in an antique style or a small steel race car would be a real treat for me. Years after the goodies had been consumed I would love to look at the container and think about the person who gave it to me. Furthermore, the container could be used in the future for all sorts of things. A gift baske that keeps giving beyond the gifts inside it is a real gift indeed.
High quality gift baskets are not cheap but they express the type of concern and care that you want in a gift. Don't be like so many people today who give cheap gift baskets simply because they have to. When you give a gift you want to do so sincerely. If you would not like to receive a gift you probably should not give that gift to a friend. The same is true for a quality gift basket-if you would like it your friends and family would to.
