What you should expect in a gift basket

When looking for the perfect holiday gift, many people decide to give a gift basket. Gift baskets, once just fruit or candy in a basket, have become ideal holiday gifts and a festive and fun way to let a friend or loved one let them know you are thinking of them.

Gift baskets are a great gift for a number of reasons. They are versatile, so they are appropriate for just about everyone on your Christmas list, from your neighbor to your boss to your best friend. And, they come in a wide range of styles, so you can get a fancy gift basket or a fun, festive one, depending on the occasion and the recipient.

While gift baskets come in a wide range of styles and price ranges, there are still certain things you should expect in a gift basket. After all, you don't want to spend money on a gift that contains stale food, arrives late, or isn't at all what you expected. You want your recipient to have a quality gift that he or she will enjoy.
The following are some of the things you should expect and look for in a gift basket:

  •     Contents and not just filler. Many cheap or poorly made gift baskets will contain a few things perched atop a large pile of filler, such as paper shavings or Styrofoam. These large gift baskets may look impressive, but in reality, what you are actually paying for is the filler material. You should expect a gift basket full of goodies, not a few things on top of worthless material. Make sure you read the description of the gift basket too see what exactly is going in it.
  •     Fresh content. You don't want to give a gift basket that has tasteless, out of season fruit or stale cookies or baked goods, so make sure the gift basket you are giving (if it contains food) is made fresh to order and not sitting in a warehouse somewhere.
  •     Guarantee. Look for a gift basket company that provides a money-back guarantee on the satisfaction of its customers and the quality of its contents. That way, you will know they are confident enough in their product that they are willing to stand by the quality of their gift baskets and the contents.
  •     Made in the US. Look for a gift basket that is assembled in the US, with contents that are also made in the United States as well. Many gift basket companies, particularly those that can be purchased much more inexpensively than others, are often made overseas. This often results in shipping damage or dried, stale contents.

There are a number of companies that sell gift baskets; however, they are not all created equal. Do a thorough internet search and look closely at the companies and what they offer. Make sure you go by the guidelines above as far as what you can expect in a gift basket, and make sure the companies you are looking at provide quality contents and a guarantee on quality and satisfaction.

You can also ask around for recommendations on companies that can provide you with a quality gift basket. As gift baskets are becoming more and more popular, chances are good someone you know has given one as a gift recently.
