Most gift baskets are made from extremely cheap materials. The producer and middle man make a fortune because the total value of the items inside the basket is nowhere near the sale price. Most baskets are constructed from cheap wicker material that breaks easily. They are not designed to be acutally used after the contents of the basket are taken out. Most of the items in run of the mill basket are filler. Cheap popcorn, stale cookies, and some sort of nasty drink mix do not make a good gift, regardless of how cute they may appear in the basket. Basically a good rule with any gift basket you are considering purchasing is to think if you would like to receive it yourself. You can bet that most really cheap baskets will have cheap ingredients and a poorly constructed basket-what you get is what you pay for. But how much should you pay for a really high quality gift basket?
Perhaps this question can be partly answered by asking what goes into high quality gift basket. A good gift basket will have a quality container. This could be a basket or some sort of nice collectable item. Some good examples are things like little metal cars, sleds, wagons, or treasure chests. In all quality gift baskets there is a gift that remains beyond the life of the goodies, which is the basket itself. In terms of the stuff that goes into a quality gift basket, just think about the sorts of things that you would like to get in a gift. Things like Lindor truffles, Ferror Rocher, honey roasted peanuts, chocolate covered popcorn, assorted imported nuts and candies, and gourmet coffees. Who wouldn't like to receive a gift like that if it came in a nice collectible container?
So consider how much this stuff costs and you have some sort of idea of how much a quality basket will cost. An average quality gift basket with a cute, lasting collectible container could cost between onehundred and two hundred dollars. Really extravagant large baskets with forty or fifty different goodies might cost as much as three or fourhundred dollars. This sounds terribly expensive, but if you think about all the things you are getting its really not that bad. If you were to take the time to find all of those items, as well as a cute container in which to put them, you would spend several hours or days doing so. Be prepaired to spend a fair amount on a quality gift basket but expect quality in return.
Gift baskets are not scam gifts, although most of the ones sold and given these days are scams. A quality gift basket does not hide the fact that it was a costly gift. It actually displays a high degree of quality and thus expense which will be greatly appreciated by your friend, family member, or business associate when they receive it. When people receive gifts more than anything they want to know that you actually care and that you have put some effort and sacrifice into the gift. A high quality gift basket will not be cheap, but it will convey the type of care and concern that you are aiming for. Next to the cheap baskets it will realy stand out. Furthermore, it will leave a lasting reminder of your gift. A cool collectible container will be used for other things for years or will sit on a shelf as a constant reminder of your thoughtfullness.
